Scientists at the University of Salzburg have announced that it is now easier to know the exact date of death in human bring even after 240 hours, i.e. 10 days, after death. According to the research, tropomyosin and actinin, two proteins found in muscles do not degrade for 10 days. Forensic experts can use this to determine details.
The lead researcher was Dr. Peter Steinbacher. Dr. Steinbacher said, ‘(We) were able to detect similar changes and exactly the same degradation products in human muscle tissue as they had in dead pig study, where enzymes and protein degrade after a point... it (is) well known that all muscle proteins undergo detectable changes at a certain point in time, and this would extend the currently analysed timeframe even further.’
