5700 new cancer patients registered in Chennai

Today is World Cancer Day. Chennai Cancer Institute has mentioned that during one year 5700 cancer patients have been registered. In connection with World Cancer Day, the cancer institute has issued a press release.

In the press release it has been mentioned, “Day by day cancer disease is increasing in India. Every year 29 Lakhs people are being treated for cancer. Out of which 11 lakhs are new patients. There is a great danger that this number will be increased by 17 lakhs in the year 2035. Every year in India alone 7 lakhs people die of cancer. In the year 2035, the cancer deaths will be increased by 12 lakhs. Only 30% of people detected with cancer live more than five years. As far as Chennai is concerned 5700 new patients have been registered. Female are more affected than men. Out of one lakh men only 112 are being affected with cancer while out of 1 lakh women 122 have cancer. In Adyar Cancer Institute, 15, 400 new patients come for treatment. 1.37 lakh people who have been treated come for review. 8500 people are admitted as in-patients and being treated. Men who come for treatment have mouth cancer or lung cancer. Women who come for treatment have uterus mouth cancer or breast cancer or mouth cancer. Smoking or using of tobacco increases the mouth cancer in men. Since women do not have these habits, there is less mouth cancer.”
