The current lifestyle has both the husband and wife employed and attending outside work. Hence, they are not in a position to buy food items such as vegetables & fruits on a daily basis.

So, they make weekly purchases and keep the items in the fridge.  However, most of us are not aware about how long these items will remain fresh in the fridge.

Fridge maintains a temperature between 34 & 40 Degrees Fahrenheit. This ensures that the food items remain fresh for a long time. Let us learn which item will remain fresh for how long!

Grapes, pears and plums remain fresh for 3 to 5 days. Apple remains good for 1 month. Citrus fruits remain fresh for 2 weeks. Uncut pineapple stays good for 1 week. Cut pineapple pieces stay good for 2 to 3 days.

Broccoli, dry peas remain good for 3 to 5 days. Cabbage, carrots, radish, fennel leaves remain good for 1 week. Tomato stays fresh for 1 to 2 days. Cauliflower and brinjal stay fresh for 1 week. Mushrooms remain fresh for 1 to 2 days.

Fried meat or gravy remains fresh for 2to 3 days. Cooked fish stays good for 3 to 4 days. Crabs with shell remain fresh for 2 days. Fresh (uncooked) prawn stays fresh for 1 day. Dry fish or fish pickle remains fresh for 1 week. Cooked chicken pieces remain fresh for 1 to 2 days. However, it is always better to use meat on the same day of purchase.

Milk or fat-removed milk remains fresh for 1 week. Toned milk, sweet cream, and flavoured milk will remain fresh until 10 to 14 days from the date specified on their covers. Curd remains fresh for 7 to 10 days.

If vegetable, fruits, and other food items are kept in the fridge as per the above list, we can safely use them for best results.
