Chennai Metro Rail may extend its functioning date since seven of the stations are still incomplete. The old contracts are cancelled and CMRL is waiting for new tenders. It was scheduled for functioning between Koyambedu and Alandur across seven stations: Koyambedu, CMBT, Vadapalani, Arumbakkam, Ashok Nagar, Ekkattuthangal and Alandur, but the works are yet not completed.
With the end of Consolidated Construction Consortium Limiteds contract with CMRL by late in January, the department floated tenders in February and awaiting new contractors to be responsible of further works. However, as of now, no new contractor has shown interest towards the project and the government has re-called its tender notifications.
Enquiring about the delay, one of the CMRL official stated contractors guess it tiring to complete the remaining works as the available time is just six months. The new bidder should be potential to complete in next six months, else the work may get extend for more than one and a half year. We at least want the minor works to be carried out by the contractor, he added.
