Unaccounted cash amounting to 55 lakh was seized in Tamil Nadu

Flying squad enforcing the model code of conduct was seized unaccounted cash amounting to 55 lakh in Karur, Coimbatore and Nilgiris districts on Friday.
An amount of 30 lakh in Karur, while 25 lakh was impounded in Coimbatore and Nilgiris districts. Near Karur, the cash was found when officials were inspecting vehicles at Veerarakkiyam village.
The occupant of the car, who works for a textile shop, said the cash was for was for procurement of apparel but could not provide supporting documents.
In Coimbatore city and Coonoor town, 25.2 lakh was seized from four locations. Police said 8 lakh was found with the occupants of two cars in Coimbatore. In Coonoor, officials seized 9.5 lakh and 8.16 lakh from two persons travelling in cars. Poll authorities said documents establishing the source of cash are required to move more than 50,000, failing which it will be seized
