In Chennai, more people have been using the metro trains to reach their destinations ever since the Coronavirus infection restrictions were relaxed by the government.

In November, Chennai received very heavy rains and due to this reason the metro train patronage has come down now. In the month of October 29.69 lakhs of passengers travelled by the metro trains in Chennai and in November the patronage came down to 29.24lakhs.

It must be taken into account that on 25th November a maximum of 1.31lakhs passengers travelled by the metro trains in Chennai. The metro trains resumed services in Chennai on 21st of June and in the month of July and as many as 18.46 lakhs passengers travelled by metro trains. In August month, the patronage went up to 22.74 lakhs and it was superb. A growth of 18percent was registered in September regarding metro train patronage and patronage grew to 26.86 lakhs.

As many as 29.69 lakhs commuters travelled by metro trains in Chennai in the month of October and the patronage shot up by 10percent from the previous month. Since 21st June 2021, a total of 1.30 crore passengers have used metro train services to go to various places. The marginal drop in the patronage in November was due to heavy rains and this was according to some CMRL sources.

Work from home method was preferred by many persons as heavy rains have flooded many places in Chennai in November. Going to offices was avoided by many. In addition, the schools and colleges were also closed due to heavy rains and this too contributed to the marginal drop in the patronage.

Point is that the operation of small feeder buses at four important metro stations would make more people opt for metro trains in Chennai. The feeder buses would be extended to all the metro stations in the future.
