After the break, the rains to restart in TN from 16th December

There is now dry weather prevailing in the state of TN after the two recent cyclones. It is now said that this dry weather would continue for another 2 more days and the state of TN would get rains once again from 16th December. This was mentioned by the meteorological department.

From Wednesday, few places might get light to moderate rains and one or two places in TN might get heavy rains. This was brought out by an official belonging to the meteorological department.

On Sunday, in places like Nungambakkam and in Meenambakkam, the minimum temperature dropped slightly below the usual. It must be noted that minimum temperature of 22 degrees Celsius was recorded in Nungambakkam and 21.2 degrees Celsius was recorded in Meenambakkam.

Long and dry spells were normal in the monsoon period especially in the December months and this was according to Mr. S. Balachandran, deputy director general of meteorology. He spoke about how long and dry takes place as we move towards peak winter season. He concluded that it was not the end of the NE monsoon season as the season would be till 31st December. Easterly trough would be bringing back the rains in TN from Wednesday. In the beginning, coastal areas would be covered and later the trough would move towards interior areas.

Information collected was that monitoring the weather has been going on and more clear details would be got on Monday. Till now, the state of TN has received 43.1 cms of rains (a 6% excess that the average of 40.7 cms rains from 1st October). There is still a deficit close to 30 percent in the districts like Kanniyakumari, Namakkal and Trichy etc.
