Prospects for rains in Chennai Metro City for the next 48 hours!

The low-pressure zone formed over the Gulf of Mannar has remained static and continues to bring rainfall to the southern districts of Tamil Nadu and coastal areas. The experts observe that Rains will persist for another 48 hours.

On Monday, 7th December, certain areas of Thoothukkudi recorded a rainfall of 16 to 11 cm. The areas of Nagappattinam, Karaikkal and Kanyakumari received rainfall of 9 cm each.

N Puviyarasan, Director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre, the Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre, observed: “The low-pressure zone over Gulf of Mannar persists. Thunderstorm with lightning is likely to occur at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikkal. Heavy rains are likely in isolated parts of the State.”

As regards the Chennai Metro City, Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam recorded rainfalls of 3.8 mm and 7.7 mm respectively.

There are prospects for mild to medium showers with chances of thunderstorms over the next 48 hours. The Chennai Metro City is to record maximum and minimum temperatures between 30 and 24 degrees Celsius.

Weather blogger Pradeep John, who runs the page Tamil Nadu Weatherman, informed: “With a new circulation in the Arabian Sea, we will see easterly winds moving in easily in next two days and interior districts will get rains, like Erode, Coimbatore, Tirupur, the Nilgiris, Dindigul, Theni, Virudhunagar, and Thenkasi. Other districts will also get moderate rain.”

The weather officials informed that there are prospects for heavy rains with thunderstorm in the districts of Ramanathapuram, Thoothukkudi, Tirunelveli, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagappattinam, and Mayiladuthurai.

Tamil Nadu Weatherman, Pradeep John, informed further that there are prospects for mild to medium rains with thunderstorms in isolated areas across the State, especially the coastal districts. As regards the Chennai Metro City, there are prospects for intense but short spells in the nights and mornings.
