Akshaya Trithiyai: Traditional purchase of gold online this year!

With the prevailing lockdown imposition as a preventive measure against the raging coronavirus pandemic, the jewelry shops, which remain closed, are set for online sales this year.
The day and the festival of ‘Akshaya Trithiyai’ is an important one among the Hindu festivals and it is considered a very holy day- there is a tradition and belief if gold is bought on this day, it will ensure that gold keeps coming to that family throughout! During the normal period teems of gold-buying crowds would have invaded all the jewelry shops and substantial sales of jewelry items would be reported by the shop owners!
However, the lockdown condition has restricted this tradition this year (2020)! Akshaya Trithiyai falls on 26th April! But the jewelry shops are to remain closed until 3rd May due to the lockdown imposition.
In this situation, the jewelry shops have decided to conduct the sales of gold jewelry online!
The President of the Chennai Metro City Gold and Diamond traders’ Association, Jayanthilal Chalani, shared:
“Around 1 Lakh goldsmiths are engaged in Tamil Nadu in the craft of making gold jewelry items! As the jewelry shops are to remain closed due to the lockdown situation, this has severely affected the lifelines of the goldsmiths! On behalf of the Gold Jewelry Shop Owners’ Association, funds of Rs. 10 Crores have been collected and each goldsmith family has been given Rs. 1500 as a relief!
However, this fund would not be sufficient for their needs! So, the jewelry shops have decided to open online sales of gold jewelry. As per this, the payment for the online purchase will be as per the gold rate on that day. A document will be sent to the buyer’s residence!
Once the lockdown conditions are withdrawn, the buyer can bring this document and receive the jewelry ordered online. Whatever be the gold rate on this date of delivery, the price will be the rate on the date when the online order was made for either gold coins or the jewelry - if jewelry item, the price for which it was ordered will be collected.
