Many of us would have slipped and fallen and would have got our ankles sprained.

We must know what to do and what to avoid while dealing with these sprains or other minor injuries.

The ankle sprain could be very painful and must be treated immediately. When the muscle gets stretched too far and tears partly then it is called as strain. It is important to note that sprain involves ligament tear and it could be very painful for the person.

It is said that running on uneven surfaces, wearing high heeled shoes, wearing shoes with inappropriate heel support etc could lead to increased risk of ankle sprains. So please take care.

By RICE method, ankle sprains etc could be easily treated.

In RICE, R stands for Rest, I for Ice, C for Compression and E for Elevation and it must be followed without fail for treating ankle sprains and other minor injuries.

By Rest:
That something has gone wrong is usually signaled by pain. The point is when we get hurt or ankle sprain etc then we must stop the activity and get rest and that is important.

By Ice:
For many times in a day, we must apply ice or cold compression over the sprained ankle or over the injury. By this, swelling would be reduced well and there would not be much pain.

By Compression:
For the sake of preventing swelling and inflammation, we must compress the portion with crepe bandage.

By Elevation:
Here, the body part is raised above the level of the heart. This could reduce the pain, swelling and pain effectively.

Other methods that could be done along with RICE method are

By preventing the injury:
By proper warming up before the match, a sportsperson could avid these ankle sprains and strains easily.  It must be followed by cooling time once the match gets over.

By referring to hospital:
This is also very important in treating a person with sprained ankle or for other minor injuries. It is revealed that we must know when to stop treating the person at home and take him or her to the hospital or doctor must be consulted.
