How many of us are aware of the fact that in 2018 India recorded the highest number of deaths due to cervical cancer?

The organ that connects uterus and vagina in a woman is called as cervix and cancer in this part is known as cervical cancer. The symptoms of cervical cancer are not seen until the cancer is developed. Important point is blood stained vaginal discharge, pelvic pain or pain during intercourse are some symptoms of this cancer.  Women above 30 years of age could get cervical cancer.

Reasons for cervical cancer:
It is said that those women who have many sexual partners are at high risk of getting affected with cervical cancer. Sometimes using birth control pills for long time could lead to this cancer.

Various ways by which cervical cancer could be prevented are

By quitting smoking:
It is well known that smoking could lead to many respiratory issues. Not many women know that smoking is also responsible for the cervical cancer. When a woman smokes then the chances of her getting cervical cancer is high. DNA cells of cervix get damaged by tobacco by- products and cervical cancer occurs. It is revealed that by smoking cessation therapy quitting of smoking is possible.

By routine Pap test must:
The abnormalities that tend to occur in the cervix of a woman could be revealed by means of Pap test. Any change to the cells of cervix could be addressed on time. Correct steps could be taken on time and cervical cancer could be prevented. Doctors would be able to provide information about the Pap test, when to undergo it etc.

By getting vaccinated:
Certain types of HPV could lead to cervical cancer in woman and there is a vaccine available that would protect against these HPV’s. Doctor must be consulted for these vaccines to avoid cervical cancer. The doctor would be able to tell at what age vaccination must be done and the duration for vaccination etc.

By having safe sex:
This is also one important way to prevent cervical cancer. Multiple sex partners must be avoided and bleeding between inter course must be evaluated.
