Heavy rains in Chennai last 2 days - water reservoirs filling fast!

Due to the heavy rains in the Chennai Metro City over the last 2 days, the storage water levels in the major water resources supplying the Chennai Metro City have been increasing quite fast!

The water levels in the 4 major water reservoirs supplying drinking water to the Chennai Metro City, Poondi, Puzhal, Cholavaram, and Chembarambakkam have increased.

In the Poondi reservoir, the capacity has increased by 208 million cft in a single day and the water inflow is 2242 cft per second! In the Chembarambakkam water reservoir, the water capacity has gone up by 8 million cft and in Puzhal reservoir, the capacity has gone up by 27 million cft.

The Cholavaram reservoir capacity has gone up by 30 million cft and the water inflow is at 347 cft per second.

As a cyclonic format has stabilized in the upper layers of the atmosphere over the Bay of Bengal, there have been heavy rains in North Tamil Nadu since yesterday (Thursday, 19th September) night.

Especially, a maximum rainfall of 220 mm has been recorded in Thiruvallur district. It is noteworthy that there have been such heavy rains in Thiruvallur district in a single day.

It rained almost throughout yesterday in the Chennai Metro City. Due to this traffic was affected in the suburban areas. The school/college/office-goers were all put to hardship due to the rains.

Once again, clouds gathered yesterday evening as well and it rained in the night also.

As the cyclonic format has stabilized over the coastal Bay of Bengal, there are prospects of more rains in North Tamil Nadu.

In this situation, there have been widespread medium rains since this morning (Friday, 20th September) in the Chennai Metro City.
