From Monday onwards, the state selection committee has extended phase-1 of single window counselling for UG dental admissions by 3 days. Important information is the under graduate dental seats or BDS seats have been allotted to as many as 476 students now and just 18 of the government quota in self financing colleges remain vacant. On Friday, more than 1000 MBBS seats were vacant at the end of the phase-1 counselling is known.
It is important to note that as many as 417 out of 1070 government seats and 640 out of 690 management seats were vacant on Monday, 22nd July 2019. The selection committee has been urged by the association for private dental colleges to extend counselling.
It was later mentioned by the selection committee secretary, Dr. G. Selvarajan, that management of some colleges converted some of their management quota to government quota to attract more students. He added that there are still 17 seats left for MBC and one seat left for ST category. He concluded that the counselling would continue tomorrow also. It is clear from the officials that the counselling would continue on Tuesday also.
It is worth mentioning that similar to the MBBS admissions, admission to BDS is based on the NEET 2019 scores plus on the 69% rule reservation. In the self financing dental colleges in TN, there were as many as 1760 BDS seats present and this was at the beginning.
Point to be noted is out of these 1760 seats as many as 1060 seats were set aside as government quota. As many as 6698 students have been called for the counselling but only 632 turned up on Monday in the extended counselling session. Important piece of information is out of 632 students 449 students have been allotted seats in several self financing dental colleges.
