Counselling for the General Category candidates for medical course commenced!

The counselling for the general category candidates for admission to medical courses MBBS and BDS commenced yesterday (Tuesday, 9th July) in Chennai. The candidates who secured ranks in the top 10 in the rank/merit list chose their preferred medical colleges for joining.

The counselling for admission to medical courses MBBS and BDS under the government quota of seats commenced day-before-yesterday (Monday, 8th July) at the Chennai Anna Salai Government Multi-specialty Hospital Complex. The counselling for the candidates under the differently-abled category, sports specialists, and the heirs of ex-military personnel was conducted and 48 candidates were given admission letter to join medical courses. Subsequently, the seats which remained unfilled were transferred to the general category.

The counselling for the general category commenced yesterday (Tuesday, 9th July). The invitation to letter to attend the counselling session had been sent to 103 candidates (applicants) who secured marks in the range 685 to 610 in NEET (National Entrance-cum-Eligibility Test).

The applicants who had secure the top 10 ranks in the merit list participated in the counselling session and selected the Madras Medical College (Chennai MMC) as their preferred college to join. The Tamil Nadu State Government Health Minister C. Vijayabhaskar handed over the admission letter to these candidates.

The Secretary for the Health Department Pela Rajesh, the Director for Medical Education Edwin Joe, The Secretary of the Students Selection Committee G. Selvarajan, and the Director of the multi-speciality hospital R. Vimala participated in this event.

During the event, the Health Minister had a session with the press and shared :
‘For this academic year, an additional 350 MBBS seats had been allotted for the Tamil Nadu Government Medical Colleges. Subsequently, the total number of seats available under the state government quota has increased to 3968 seats. Also, preventive actions have been taken to cancel instances of a single candidate applying in 2 different states with the sole objective to pursue joining medical course somehow and also cancel the applications from candidates without proper proof of residence. In case a candidate has applied in 2 different states, he/she will get disqualified. This can be easily detected and accessed with the help of the serial number of NEET. Only candidates with proper proof of residence can apply to join medical courses under the state government quota.’
