The central cabinet has approved setting up of Kendriya Vidyalayas in 4 places in Tamil Nadu including Coimbatore.

There are 1199 schools throughout the country and 49 Kendriya Vidayalas in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. These schools function under the Central Government Department of Human Welfare and Development. As the central government allows and sanctions higher fund for these schools, the academic fees in Kendriya Vidyalayas are rather lower.

Each class is of 40 students, Apart from the 26% quota reserved under the Right to Education Act, for the balance 75% seats, children of the central government students are given the priority for admission. Especially, the children of the central government employees who are liable to be transferred frequently are given topmost priority. In the next level, priority is given to children of the state government employees. After these 3 quotas/priorities, the balance seats are available for admission and admission after application for the rest of the public!

With the above scenario, the academicians and parents have been demanding that more Kendriya Vidyalayas must be set up throughout the country.

In this situation, the central cabinet has approved setting up of 50 new Kendriya Vidyalayas throughout the country. As such, 4 new Kendriya Vidyalayas are to be set up in Tamil Nadu in Tirupur, Madurai, Coimbatore, and Sivagangai.
