The tendering process would take place once the election gets over as there would be election code of conduct till the start of the elections.

The official explained that by the time the tendering process gets completed it might be early January. Point is construction might then start after one or two months of time. The important information is from the time of beginning of construction it might take 6 years of time to complete the entire work and then operations would start. Work on some stretches has been started by the detailed design consultants and soon a general consultant would be appointed to monitor the project in few months of time.

It was revealed by another official belonging to CMRL that the Chennai Metro phase-2 would cost an amount of Rs 69180 crores. The main point is this phase-2 of Chennai metro would crisscross major areas of Chennai with 3 corridors such as Madhavaram to Sholinganallur of 47km, Lighthouse to Poonamallee of 21km and Madhavaram to SIPCOT of 45.8 km.
