The present 3-terms system for 9th Standard to be withdrawn

The present system, adopting 3 academic terms for the 9th Standard, is being withdrawn.

The ‘Samacheer Learning System’ has been implemented in the year 2011 and is being continued. At that time, the ‘3-terms’ academic system was adopted for 1st Standard to the 9th Standard. And continuous practical skill test was introduced.

Accordingly, the 1st quarter of the academic year was considered as the 1st term, the end of the half-year period was considered as the 2nd term and the balance was considered as the 3rd term leading to the final examinations.

In this system, once the students have completed the 1st term and the related lessons in the subjects, they need not have to study them again. They need to study only the lessons prescribed for the 2nd term and write the exams.

Thus for the students who had undergone 3-terms system up to the 9th Standard, they have to study for the whole year in the next – 10th standard and write the Public Examination.  With this system, there is a present system where the students need to struggle to score higher marks and also, it is difficult for the government school students to pass the public examination.

In the above situation, the state government Department of Education conducted a review of the above and recommended that the present 3-term system adopted for the 9th Standard to be removed.

Accordingly, the State Council of Education Research and Training, Tamil Nadu has replaced the present system of distributing 3 combined books for the 3-terms with one textbook to be used throughout the year for each subject.

So, the School Education Department officials informed that from the next academic year,  only single books for each subject will be distributed from the next academic year onwards.
