Recently the final stretch of phase-1 project from AG-DMS to Washermanpet in north Chennai was launched and it grabbed many eyeballs. The superb piece of news is now the number of people travelling by metro trains has increased up to an average of 90000 a day. An average of 55000 people travelled every day by metro trains in Chennai before opening of the 10 km stretch from AG-DMS to Washermanpet is known. This was confirmed by the officials belonging to CMRL or Chennai metro Rail Limited.

It was pointed out by an official of CMTL that the number of people travelling by metro trains would touch a lakh in the coming weeks. Normally people might not be aware of the station in their area, its exact location etc and it might take one or two weeks of time for the people to know these details and use the metro trains. Trip cards were used by the people more now and these trip cards work like a weekly or monthly pass to travel in the metro trains.

The official expressed his happiness about the trip cards used by many people and said it clearly showed that more people wanted to use metro trains to reach their places of destination in Chennai. The amazing information gathered is more number of people would start using the metro trains once share autos and share cars starts to function in all the 32 metro stations present in the 45km network of phase-1 project. In another 2 months of time share autos and cars would start operating in all the 32 stations by the firm that was given the contract.

The number of people taking this system would be more. In the newly opened metro stations there would be cycles present and this would also be highly beneficial for the commuters. This was later confirmed by another official belonging to CMRL.

Point is Chennai Central and Chennai airport are the two important favourite metro stations of the commuters. In these stations as many as 7700 people and 6500 people respectively take this system every day. It must be taken into account that Saidapet and Nanganallur stations are least used by the commuters.
