Cable TV - new payment scheme - deadline extended

Posted on: 13/Feb/2019 2:39:24 PM
It had been earlier announced by TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) that the cable TV/DTH customers must follow the revised monthly payment system from 1st February.

Now, it has been announced that this deadline has been extended until 31st March! This has provided much-needed relief to the customers.

With the State Government of Tamil Nadu providing Cable TV services through set-top Boxes, TRAI had suddenly announced a new payment scheme to be implemented from 1st January.

According to this, a monthly cable TV service charges of Rs. 153 including GST and an additional Rs. 20 as maintenance charges for a total of Rs. 173 has to be paid every month. Further, for the preferred channel list given by the customer, additional payment has to be made as set by the channel.

With this revised scheme, a situation has arisen that the customer needs to make the monthly payment of about Rs. 300 just after selecting only a few channels to watch.  For those interested in watching all the channels offered, the monthly charges would be a whopping Rs. 1000! With this ‘bolt-out-of0the-blue’ sudden dashing announcement, the public has been thoroughly shocked as their one major resource for entertainment has also been blocked because of this drastic revision!

In this situation, the deadline has now been extended until 31st March.

In this scenario, it is worth mentioning that most customers prefer to change over to other modes such as changing their TVs into smart TVs and using their TVs with Amazon Firestick, etc., to watch all the channels through online mode under far lesser charges.
