These potassium rich foods are essential for our health

The mineral potassium or K is very important for all of us. The fluid balance in us is maintained by potassium. Potassium also plays a huge role in the functioning of our nerves, brain, heart etc. It is important to mention that potassium helps in easing contractions of muscles and keep sodium levels in control etc. Sometimes we might not get enough potassium and it could lead to low potassium levels in us. This is called as hypokalemia.

There are few foods rich in potassium and these foods could be consumed by us so that we do not become potassium deficient.

The potassium rich foods are

Potatoes intake:

Being excellent sources of potassium, both white and sweet potatoes could be consumed by us for our health to be good. It is said that most of the potassium is present in the flesh of the potatoes and about one third in the skin. Hence it is advisable to take unpeeled potatoes.

Beans intake:

Examples of beans are white beans, lima beans, kidney beans, pinto beans etc. They have potassium plus others like folates, iron, magnesium, high fibres, antioxidants etc.

Banana intake:

Bananas have potassium plus others like magnesium, vitamin C, B6, fibre and antioxidants etc. By consuming bananas the BP is kept stable plus blood sugar levels get controlled etc. The important point is our gut heath gets benefited by intake of bananas.

Spinach intake:

They belong to the family ‘Amaranthaceae’ and are seen mostly in central and west Asia. Spinach contains potassium, vitamin A, folates, magnesium, vitamin C etc. It is essential to include spinach in our diet and it could be consumed in either raw form or in boiled form.

Orange intake:

It is well known that oranges are hybrid between pomelo and mandarin and is a fruit of citrus species of family called Rutaceae. These oranges have vitamin C plus potassium in them. The important piece on information is intake of oranges could provide us vitamin A, thiamine, folates etc.

Avocados intake:

Avocados belong to family called Lauraceae and they have mono saturated fats, fibres, vitamin C, folates etc in them. Being superb source of potassium avocados intake could help in heart health etc.
