Operators cut channel to increase STB sales

In spite of compulsory digitization that has been announced by the Central Government, many Chennai residents have still not bought Set Top Boxes to view TV channels. The cable operators who have invested in the STBs are desperate to sell them now.
To make this possible, they have cut down the number of channels that a subscriber can view. For example, a subscriber in Kolathur was able to view only 2 channels when he could view 50 earlier. Only time will tell if this will result in the sale of more STBs.
