Inauguration of the last leg of 45 km phase-1 of Chennai metro would be done soon and CMRL is gearing up for that now. The news that has emerged out is CMRL is considering linking High court metro station with Secretariat or Fort suburban station by means of a foot over-bridge or pedestrian subway. The main aim would be to encourage the government staff members to use the facility.

An official spoke about how the idea was discussed in the meeting and would be considered if there is any formal request. Previously CMRL has linked High court metro with Broadway bus terminus with an entry point. Entry points are present on the NSC Bose Road and Esplanade Road.

By the end of the month of January, High Court metro is expected to be opened for the public. This station is one of the 8 underground metro stations between Washermenpet and AGDMS and it covers nearly a distance of 10km. By this the 45km network of phase-1 operating would be completed and it would link 2 arterial roads like Anna Salai and Poonamallee through metro train services.

The sources have pointed out that the idea of linking the state administrative quarters was considered in the past but was dropped after new legislative assembly complex was inaugurated at the Government Omandurar Estate in the year 2010. Near this estate, an underground metro station has been constructed and a multi-speciality hospital is present is known. An official later spoke about how detailed design stage had many facilities and how these facilities get dropped as the detailed design gets fine tuned. Former secretary of TN Government Employees Association, Mr. Venkatesan, was not sure about the subway coming up as clearances are required. He hoped that metro rail would operate shuttle services for the employees of the Secretariat to the nearest metro station.
