Providing the last mile connectivity is very essential for the commuters using metro trains in the Chennai city and this is now making great news. It is now brought out that the commuters coming out of Alandur metro station and heading towards Porur need not worry about the last mile connectivity as 4 air-conditioned vans would serve them. On Monday, 1st October 2018, CMRL or Chennai Metropolitan Rail Limited launched this service. This has attracted the attention of many now.

Starting from 6:30 pm till 9:30 pm, a/c vans would be available for the commuters for every 15 minutes of time at the Alandur metro station and at DLF Porur. Passengers could use the services of these vans and they could board and deboard at any point between the 2 points. These passengers need to pay a fare amount of Rs 20. An official spoke about how depending on the feedback from the passengers the van service might be extended to other metro stations also in the future.

In the month of June in the year 2015 this Alandur metro station was opened for the public along with the first elevated line between Koyambedu and Alandur. Alandur metro station is the elevated hub that links 2 corridors of phase-1. Alandur is connected with the neighbourhood by few buses and most of the regular buses that halt at the bus stops are those that link localities like Tambaram etc to the centre.

As per an official of metro rail it is clear that for the sake of other commuters CMRL had launched a bicycle on rent service. After paying a refundable deposit of Rs 3000, the commuters could use the bicycle to travel to their places of destination from the Alandur metro station free of charge. He later threw light on the operation of mini buses for the sake of the commuters who have to travel to the neighbourhoods beyond Alandur.

It is known that other metro stations in places like Airport, Koyambedu, Thirumangalam and Vadapalani etc attracts huge crowds. CMRL has been providing bikes on rent as well as bicycles for the commuters. A person working in a company in Ekkattuthangal spoke about how all the metro stations must have small buses linking the neighbourhoods and how the schedule has to be synced with the train timetable. It is important to mention that this Alandur metro station is a part of Blue Line and Green Line of the Chennai metro and serves as an interchange station.
