The latest news about CMRL or Chennai Metro Rail Limited is it would soon check the stability of elevated metro rail corridors in 2 arterial roads. The inspection of the structures would begin in short time. To inspect, investigate and to submit report with suggestions, CMRL is on the lookout for a suitable firm now. It is well known that metro rail operates 21km elevated corridor from Thirumangalam ramp to St. Thomas Mount and from Saidapet ramp to the airport.

An official expressed his views and spoke about the importance of the inspections. He highlighted that once the elevated section completes two years of operation then checking is very important. In six months of time the contractor would inspect the corridor and submit his report and any further step would be taken only after the outcome of the report submitted by the contractor. Various parameters that would be used by the team of experts for evaluation are stability, strength, development of cracks etc. It is revealed that more than 500 columns and viaducts above them would be checked during the inspection process. Rubber bush is resent in between the columns is known and this rubber bush would be checked plus checking would also be conducted on the decks on which the tracks were laid.

An official belonging to CMRL spoke about how periodic checking the condition of the bush and its position was very essential. During the movement of the metro trains there would be some disturbances on the rubber bush and it must be given importance. For the safety of the passengers as well as the safety of the road below, the inspection was critical.

It must not be forgotten that in August month in the city of Kochi in Kerala, a piece of concrete from a pillar of the elevated corridor fell on an auto under. The passengers in the auto escaped without getting hurt. This incident caught the attention of many. An official explained that this would be the second inspection of the elevated corridor. He threw light on how previously instead of floating tenders, quotations from the contractors was got. This was due to fact that the stretch was smaller in size and its value was low. He hinted that this time the entire corridor would be inspected as the value is high when compared to the past.

It is important to note that this CMRL is a high capacity public transport and it is a joint venture between the Tamil Nadu government and Government of India.
