New timetable implemented for the Chennai Metro Rail operations

The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has implemented a new timetable for its trains from yesterday (Friday, 7th September). As a decision has been taken to operate the trains every 7 minutes during the peak office hours in the mornings and the evenings, the officials explained that an additional 100 services would be operated.

Presently, Metro Rails are being operated in Chennai in 2 corridors covering a distance of 35 km.  The services from Chennai Central Railway Station to the Chennai Airport via Egmore and Koyambedu Bus Terminus have now been linked.

In a similar way, Metro Rails are being operated from Anna Salai DMS to Chennai Airport.

With the additional sections introduced, the number of passengers has increased to 55000 per day.

Subsequently, CMRL has changed the timetable and implemented the same from yesterday. As per the revised timetable, trains will be operated every 7 minutes in the section from DMS to Chennai Airport during the busy office hours, During the other time, trains will be operated once every 14 minutes.

Further, in the section from the Chennai Central to the Airport, trains will be operated once in 14 minutes. In a similar arrangement, trains from Chennai Central to Alandur will be operated every 7 minutes once.

It may be noted that the trains were earlier being operated every 10 minutes during the peak office hours and every 20 minutes once during the other periods.

A CMRL official explained regarding this that presently, the CMRL trains operate covering 35 km. As the CMRL services are to be linked with the important electric train stations and bus remain, there has been a gradual but remarkable increase in the number of passengers utilizing the CMRL services.

Further, some changes have been made in order that the passengers do not need to wait for long times and travel as early. A special feature worth noting is that the CMRL services will operate trains every 7 minutes during the peak office hours. Earlier this was every 10 minutes.

The CMRL trains are operated as per the revised timetable from yesterday (Friday, 7th September). With this, there has been an addition of over 100 services.
