Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) announced the reduction in frequency of trains owing to lower footfalls against the earlier expectation in terms of commuters. Direct trains on two of the sectors will have rescheduled train frequency for every 15 minutes approximately.

The peak hour interval (8.30 a.m.to 10.30 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.) and non-peak hours (6 a.m. to 8.30 a.m., 10.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 8.30 p.m. to 10 p.m.) will have direct trains from Chennai Central to Chennai Airport and Chennai Central to St Thomas Mount for every 14 minutes. If a passenger gets down before the full length stretch and plans for another journey then the frequency of the trains retains to seven minutes availability.
