It is now said that CMRL or Chennai Metro Rail Limited would soon be setting up electric vehicle or e-vehicle charging stations in the above mentioned metro stations. The main objective for this is to provide eco-friendly green services. For this the CMRL has joined hands with the popular Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. Fantastic isn’t it!!

According to a senior official belonging to CMRL, presently this plan is in the beginning stage only and he hinted that as many as 10 electric bikes and 5 electronic cars could be charged at the same time. For parking electronic bikes and cycles at the metro stations, CMRL is not charging any money now. It is now revealed that the market for electric vehicles is rapidly rising and there is great need to set up electric charging points for the commuters.

Another superb piece of news is Chennai metro is also planning to launch e-bikes and for this a Bengaluru based company might be joining hands with CMRL. Popular automobile giants like Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra are highly interested to set up charging stations for electric vehicles. Cab companies such as Ola, Uber etc have also shown great interests in this aspect.

After the inauguration of 2 major stretches including Little Mount to AG-DMS and Chennai Central-Shenoy Nagar, the metro patronage has doubled in the peak hours. During the peak hours between 8 am to 10:30 am and from 5 pm to 8:30 pm, 12000 passengers on average use metro rail now. Normally 20 metro trains are operated in the non-peak hours but in the peak hours 25 metro trains are operated for the sake of people.
