Pre-Monsoon season seems to be in an active mode for the southern states of Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The three have been witnessing on and off rains for the last many days. In fact, for Kerala, April has been an instrumental month in terms of bringing in pre-Monsoon rains and thundershowers.

In fact, on the past day also, few parts of Tamil Nadu and isolated stations in Kerala and Karnataka recorded some light to moderate rains. However, the intensity and spread of these rains were much over Tamil Nadu as compared with the other two.

Within the span of 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Friday, Tondi recorded 27 mm of rains, Adirampattinam 22 mm, Paramathy 15 mm, Kottayam 12.4 mm, Madurai 2 mm, Kodaikanal 0.5 mm, Thiruvananthapuram observed some traces of rains. Additionally, Belgaum also recorded 0.2 mm of rains along with Dharwad with 0.4 mm of rains.

However, as predicted by Skymet Weather, Chennai, being situated in a rain-shadow area, escaped these pre-Monsoon showers this time. The capital of Karnataka, Bengaluru that has been witnessing some on and off rains for the last many days also escaped these showers.

As per Skymet Weather, these rains were due to the cyclonic circulation which was over Comorin region. However, now this system has moved westwards and can be seen over the southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining area.

In the wake of this, scattered rain thundershowers with few moderate spells are expected to continue over Kerala and at a few places over Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka for the next 24 hours. Along with this, isolated thundershowers can also be expected in the adjoining regions of Telangana and Rayalaseema in Andhra Pradesh.

However, warm and humid weather conditions during the afternoon hours would prevail and staying true to their characteristics, these pre-Monsoon showers would appear towards late afternoon and evening hours.
