On 3rd May, Tamil Nadu engineering admissions online registrations would begin

The students who are interested to take up engineering as their subject for study have an important piece of news now.

It is now said that on 3rd of May 2018, the online registrations and filling of applications for TNEA or Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions would start. The last date for registration is 30th May 2018. This was confirmed by the higher education minister Mr. K.P. Anbulayam.

For the first time this year 2018, single window counselling for admissions to engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu would be done online.

In Chennai city, counselling for sports category plus differently abled, vocational, SC-SCA, supplementary counselling would take place and would be done in person. For sports category candidates, original verification of their certificates would be done in Chennai.

The first week in the month of July would see counselling but it might vary depending on the medical counselling. It is amazing to note that as many as 567 colleges would take part in the single window counselling process in this year. Due to application of closure as many as 19 colleges have opted out.

According to TNEA officials, the number of engineering seats has been reduced by 4695 now.  To guide applicants from rural sides and those without internet facilities through online process as many as 42 TNEA Facilitation Centres or TFC have been established in the districts.

Ramanujam Computing Centre in Chennai and Anna University in Guindy, Chennai would be the TFC’s for the city of Chennai. These centres would have internet enabled computer systems, printers plus trained personnel and a seminar hall with water and sanitary facilities.

In three phases engineering counselling would be done. Online registration of the candidates is the phase one. Here the candidates are required to pay amount of Rs 500. For those belonging to SC, ST, and SCA payment of Rs 250 is required.

Certificates verification is the second phase and the candidates must go to TFC’s with their applications, original certificates etc. This would go on for 1 week.

TNEA secretary Mr. Rhymend spoke about how in this time booklet with information regarding colleges, seats and courses available would be handed over to the students and also made available online. On the TNEA portal, the merit list of eligible candidates would be published.

It must be noted that the third phase would be held over 5 rounds and each round would go on for 5 days. In the first 3 days the candidates would have to enter their option of college or course of study. In the next 2 days the students would confirm their allotment given to them.

As initial deposit for college admissions the applicants must pay Rs 5000 and those students of SC/SCA/ST must pay Rs 1000.
