Lookalike March weather in Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai

India has a varied terrain which includes mountains, valleys as well as seas along with a long coastline. It varies right from the Equator running beyond 35 degrees N latitude. Due to this, various shades of weather are observed over various parts of the country at any given time.
Climatologically, places close to the Equator, barring the hills, do not witness any significant chilly condition. Similarly, the regions that lie close to the coast see less severity in terms of winters. The three metro cities inclusive of Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai experience different shades of weather during the winter season.
The city of Joy, Kolkata observes occasional winter chill, along with Mumbai where mild wintry spell is observed. On the other hand, Chennai remains warm with occasional pleasant weather throughout the winter season. As far as the minimum temperatures are concerned, while Kolkata observes close to single digit minimums, Mumbai continues to record night temperatures in the mid-teens. However, Chennai continues to witness the minimums in the low 20s.
Meanwhile, as we enter the month of March, the weather conditions in Kolkata, Mumbai as well as Chennai begin to follow a similar pattern, at least in terms of temperatures. The average maximum for these cities is in the early 30s during March, while the minimums settles in the lower 20s.
As per humid conditions in March, Chennai remains the most humid followed by Mumbai due to their proximity to the sea. The humidity is more over Chennai due to sea breeze blowing over the region while Mumbai observes a combination of land and sea breezes. While Kolkata is slightly far away from the water bodies, it still receives sea breeze during the evening hours from the Bay of Bengal. However, the breeze is usually not that strong.
As far as March temperatures are concerned, all the metros see the maximums in the high 30s. However, it is the cities of Mumbai and Kolkata where maximums touch 40 degrees. On the other hand, Chennai does not see maximums going beyond the high 30s.
Talking about rain and thunderstorm activity, Mumbai remains dry throughout March with the monthly mean being nil. Meanwhile, Kolkata sees violent thunderstorms due to the Kal Baisakhi season. Some thunderstorms also begin in Chennai during this time.
Thus, all in all except the rain part, weather in Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai look alike during March.
