North Chennai would soon be connected metro rail soon

Good news for the people living in north Chennai is soon their places would be connected by metro rail. It must be noted that works such as construction of tunnels plus construction of elevated corridor is taking place and that is superb.

It is important to mention that to install, test and commission tracks in the elevated and underground sections and at Wimco Nagar depot, Chennai metro rail or CMRL has called for tenders.

It is now said that by the year 2019 it is possible for the people to travel by this metro rail between places like Washermanpet and Wimco Nagar located in north Chennai as 9km phase 1 extension project would be ready by 2019. This project is said to cost an amount of Rs 3770 crores.

One important piece of information given by the officials belonging to this metro rail is the company that takes up the job must install ballast-less tracks of standard gauge and this must be done within a year. By this the metro rail lines would be ready on time.

Overhead equipment is needed to supply power for the metro trains to operate is known. For this overhead equipment or OHE purpose the efforts are now going on to get a suitable contractor who would design, manufacture and install the overhead equipment.

It is now confirmed that OHE and other signalling system would be installed one by one after the tracks get installed and tested. As per the statement of an official belonging to metro rail it is clear that testing as well as certifying would be done before the trial runs of the metro rail is carried out. In another 18 months of time CMRL would be completing this OHE installation on the full stretch and depot.       

Training the personnel for maintenance support would be taken up by the company that is involved in the installation and testing of this OHE. For the sake of expanding fleet, an elevated maintenance depot would be built at Wimco Nagar by CMRL.

It is now brought out that repairing major faults in trains would be done at Koyambedu whereas Wimco Nagar depot would do only small day to day maintenance works.

In the month of July in the year 2016 this metro rail project was first launched is well known. It was in the month of September in 2017 the first tunnel between places Washermanpet and Korukkupet was finished and later in October 2017 second tunnel was completed.
