Vallakkottai based Lord Subramanya Swamy temple

Between Sriperumbudur and Singaperumal Koil is a place called Vallakottai. In this place there is a temple of Lord Subramanya Swamy that attracts many devotees. This temple is built in the Dravidian style of architecture is well known. Vallan Kottai means Fort of Vallan. This temple was constructed about 1200 years ago.
The unique feature in this temple is the presence of seven feet tall Lord Murugan image with his 2 consorts Goddess Devyani and Goddess Valli. This image of Lord Muruga is the tallest in the entire Tamil Nadu. In this temple sanctum faces eastern side and twin images of peacock faces Lord Murugan.
People coming to this temple would be surprised to see five tiered rajagopuram plus the gateway tower.
It must be noted that in this place a demon named Vallan was killed by Lord Muruga. Guru Brihaspathi suggested Indra who is king of all devas a place to worship Lord Murugan. Then Indra with his weapon ‘Vajrayudham’ pierced earth and created tank to extract water. This temple tank here is called as ‘Vajra Theertha’ as it was made using weapon ‘Vajrayudham’. Taking a dip in this tank and reciting ‘Om Saravabhava’ mantram would do many good things for the devotees is known.
Famous Tamil poet Arunagirinathar has sung about this temple in Thirupugazh is well known. On festivals and on Sundays ‘Anadhanams’ would be given in this temple of Lord Murugan for all the devotees. It is important to note that temple rituals are performed 5 times in a day here with alangaram, neivethanam and deepa aradhanai and they are superb.
Adi Kiruthigal festival in this temple is celebrated greatly and many devotees visit this temple during this festival.
This temple is opened daily for the devotees between morning 6:30 am to 12 pm and then from evening 5 pm to 8:30 pm.
