Cycle-sharing centres to be set up in 378 locations under Chennai Smart City Plan

Cycle-sharing centres are to be set up in 378 locations throughout the Chennai Metro City on behalf of the Chennai Metro Corporation. The centres will have a total 5000 cycles made with the latest technology.
In case an individual needs to share the cycle, he/she has to register through the mobile app and make the payment through e-wallet. The cycle can be unlocked only by using the App. The renter can take the cycle and leave it to another cycle-sharing centre nearest to his/her destination.
This cycle-sharing system is being implemented under the Smart City Plan. The place for setting up the centres will be given by the metro corporation. Maintenance of the centre, the finance for buying the cycles, and security aspects will have to be the responsibility of the private agency who takes up this contract. A tender for Rs. 10 Crores on this front has been floated on behalf of the Chennai Metro Corporation.
