Kancheepuram based Goddess Kamakshi Amman temple

Present in Kancheepuram in Tamil Nadu is one of the highly famous temples dedicated to Goddess Parvati. This Kancheepuram is about 85 kms from the city of Chennai. This Kamakshi Amman temple was constructed by Pallava kings and is visited by many devotees is well known.

Situated in 5 acres of land this temple has got the main deity Goddess Kamakshi in a majestic Padmasana. It must be noted that this posture signifies peace and prosperity. Present in the Goddess Kamakshi’s lower two hands are sugarcane bow and flowers bunch and in the upper two arms this Goddess has pasha and ankusha.

It is superb to note that the main entrance of this temple has got the presence of Kala Bhairavar on the left and Mahishasura Mardhini on the right. This temple also has deities like Lord Ayyappan, Lord Vinayaka and Goddess Saraswathi etc. This temple is also famous for the presence of a temple tank is known.  Thrice in a day abhishekams are conducted on the Goddess Kamakshi. Santhana Kaapu would be done every Wednesday plus on the Saturday evenings on this Goddess.

It is important to mention that in the month of ‘Maasi’ that is from mid March to mid April the devotees visit this temple in huge numbers and they see chariot plus float festivals etc.

One important piece of information is this temple of Goddess Kamakshi Amman is under the close control of Sankara Mutt and in this aspect it differs from other temples in TN that are controlled by the Archeology department or by the department of Hindu temples.  

It is superb to note that Goddess Shakthi is worshipped in India in Kancheepuram, Madurai and in Varnasi.

This temple would be opened for the devotees daily from morning 5:30 am to 12:15 pm in the noon and from 4 pm in the evening till 8:15 pm in the evening.
