He further informed that ‘New passport service centres are set to be started in 5 districts – Kanyakumari, Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai, and Dindigul – under the Madurai Regional Passport Office. These service centres would operate jointly with the Post Offices. The service centres in the districts of Virudhunagar and Kanyakumari would be set up in the next 2 months. It will take another 6 months to set up the service centres in the remaining districts.

`This facility is made on the basis that no one should undertake a journey of over 50 km to procure passports. If an application for the passport is submitted with Aadhar and 2 other requisite documents, passports would be available normally within 5 days. If the application is made in Tatkal mode, the passport would be available in 3 days. The applicants need not visit the Police Station for enquiry.
