Soon 12 more shelters to be built by the Corporation of Chennai for the homeless people

For the people who are homeless here comes the good news. It is now confirmed that the Chennai Corporation would build 12 more shelters for the sake of the people who don’t have any home or shelter to stay. These 12 shelters would be present in various places in the city of Chennai. It is now said that an amount of Rs 9.43 crores would be spent for this purpose.

An official from the Corporation of Chennai spoke about how the central government would help the civic body by supplying funds to build 33 special shelters for those people who don’t have homes. According to the orders received from the government, Corporation of Chennai has drafted cost estimation in building of 12 shelters at various places in Chennai.

Some of the places where the shelters would be making its presence felt are Kodungaiyur, place near Valluvar Kottam. New Washermanpet plus in other places like Noor Veerasamy street, Begum street, West Mambalam, TTK Road, Saiva Muthiah street etc.

It is worthy to mention here that each shelter would be built at the cost of amount Rs 78.60 lakh and the shelters would be superb for the homeless people of Chennai. One important point to note is according to Supreme Court order it is important that one night shelter must be available for one lakh people of the city corporation in India. It is now clear that Corporation of Chennai has been running as many as 43 urban shelters for the people of Chennai. Out of these 43 shelters four shelters are for those people who are mentally not well.

As per the officials it is now said that administrative sanction has been given to the estimates and tenders would be floated as and when the NULM accepts the estimation and releases funds to build the shelters. Preparing estimations for other 21 special shelters would be done soon.
