New regulations for Jallikattu event

The festival committee has decided to conduct jallikattu events for the Pongal occasion - Avaniyapuram (14th January), Palamedu (15th January), and Alanganallur (16th January).

Regulations

The district collector, Veeraraghava rao, informed that a team of personnel from the Police Department, PWD (Public Works Department), and the Cattle welfare department, supervised by the Revenue Department, will check and monitor whether the jallikattu event is organised as per the regulations. It has been emphasised that the bulls in the event should not be treated in a cruel or harmful manner.

10 teams of veterinary medical specialists and 2 mobile veterinary medical teams have been set up to check the health condition of the bulls. Only medically fit bulls will be allowed to participate in the jallikattu event.

10 medical teams have been formed to check the men participating in the jallikattu event. In case, these bull-fighters are injured by the bulls, 10 medical teams will be available to provide immediate medical treatment.

Bulls of age 3 and above will only be allowed to enter the event. They should be of 120 cm height (4’). An entry token will be given to the bulls selected for participation 3 days prior to the event.

Once the bulls are released from the Vadivasal, the men will have to control the bull either within 15 metres distance or within the 50 sq metres area within 30 seconds. Only up to 3 jumps will be permitted.

Only if the above rules are followed, the bulls will be considered to have been tamed. For this distance of 50’, a double barricade will have to be set up.

The bull-fighters must not hold the tail or horns of the bull. They should not hold the bull’s legs as well. The jallikattu event should strictly start by 8.00 AM and end by 3.00 PM.
