Southern railways saves energy by switching to LED lights

LED lightings saves huge energy is known to us. Now Southern Railways have done fabulously by switching over to LED lighting and this has led to saving of 741MW (mega watt) of energy. It must be noted that this was done as a part of green energy initiative and as many as 8564 old bulbs were replaced to LED lights. By this process many stations and colonies in Chennai division have been able to save lots of energy.
It is now revealed that out of 160 stations present in Chennai division 91 stations have got 100% conversion to LED lights. It is now said that an amount of Rs 59.72 lakhs would be saved because of converting to Led lighting and that is superb news.
It is worthy to note that on the roof top of the famous Moore Market complex a solar grid that could produce 10KW energy was commissioned and this has saved amount of Rs 1.16 lakh per year.
It is important to mention that in stations such as Mambalam, Arakkonam, Tambaram, Chengalpattu etc that falls under categories A and B as many as 216 energy signage boards have been fixed.
One important statistic that has come out is in the months between April and November in the year 2017 the Chennai division produced Rs 1307 as revenue which is higher than the revenue generated (Rs 1240) during the same period in the year 2016 and this is an increase of 5.4% from the previous year. It must be noted that the expenditure for the Chennai division was Rs 18 crores.
Some of the good works for which the money was utilized were in providing prepaid air-conditioning waiting rooms at Chennai Central and Katpadi stations, providing two lifts at Egmore station, for food plaza in Tambaram station etc. It is superb that new booking offices were created at the Kodambakkam and Pallavaram stations and 306 CCTV cameras were fixed in many stations.
