Light rains in Chennai likely around weekend

Posted on: 26/Dec/2017 6:45:17 PM
Chennai Rains have remained on the backfoot for quite a long time now. Good showers have shied away, and only isolated rainfall activity has been seen over the capital city of Tamil Nadu. So much so that the city has not seen rainfall over a millimeter throughout the month of December.

The last 24 hours were also not rainy enough for the city and only traces of rains were witnessed at the Nungambakkam observatory. These very light rains can be attributed to a cyclonic circulation which is persisting over Comorin area along with northeasterly winds which are moderate in nature.

There has been light to moderate rainfall activity over the southern districts of Tamil Nadu while northern areas have remained almost dry with very little rains over Chennai and isolated pockets.

Now, as per weathermen at Skymet Weather, not much weather activity is foreseen over Chennai for the next few days and mainly dry weather will persist over the capital city of Tamil Nadu.

However, around December 29 and 30, light rains may occur over Chennai as the low pressure area which is over Southeast Bay of Bengal will start moving in a northwest direction towards West Central Bay of Bengal.

While the impact of the low pressure will not be felt over the East Coast, due to moisture incursion from Bay of Bengal, sky may become partly cloudy and light rains may be seen.
