Posted on: 26/Dec/2017 5:09:12 PM
Tembin, a tropical storm, known by the name of typhoon Vinta in Philippines, was a lethal tropical cyclone that crossed southern Philippines, a few days back this December. Tembin, came in less than 2 weeks after tropical storm Kai Tak affected the region. It is the second successive tropical storm, which formed in quick succession and moved across Philippines. More than 200 people have been killed so far.

After leaving a trail of destruction there, it entered the South China sea and headed for Vietnam. During this period, before striking Vietnam, it intensified into a typhoon. It made a landfall in the extreme southern tip of Vietnam. The storm, now at present is moving west- north westward and today at 8:30 in the morning, was centered 300 km south west of Hochimin, Vietnam.

The system is showing signs of weakening because of increased amount of vertical wind shear. The system is now heading for Gulf of Thailand. It is predicted that after crossing Malay Peninsula, it will enter the Bay of Bengal in the South Andaman sea. It possibly may strengthen again. But the weather activity will remain confined to the Bay of Bengal.

The system may affect the coastal regions of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, giving light showers. This weather activity will travel to North- East India between January 2- 3. It would possibly bring the first effective winter rain in North- east India across all north Eastern states.
