If you’re traveling in the metro with a big baggage, things may not be so smooth for you, as the CMRL has set cap on luggage weight as 15 kg. It may affect both international flyers and those wanting to travel by train to outstation cities will be able to carry a lot more weight than the limit set by metro rail.

According to officials, the size as well as weight of baggage are limited, as per carriage and ticket rules, considering future ridership. As per the rules, the passengers should limit their baggage within 15kg. The size is also restricted to 60cm length, 45cm breadth and 25cm height. The height may be up to 65cm.

The baggage weight limit for domestic flyers is 15kg, whereas the same with international airlines is 23kg to 40kg per bag. Flights till London may be taken up to 23 kg as the check-in baggage. The limit set for US bound flights is 32kg and those to the Gulf countries is 40kg. There is no kind of restriction for trains in the central station or Egmore station.

Presently, the rules for passengers towards carrying big baggage is restricted. However, there may be hassles of manually scanning the baggage, because the electronic scanner is small for fitting large-sized baggage that are higher in dimension than recommended.

On the baggage scanners in 5 metro stations, the Delhi Metro has set up steel gauges. These are used to stop the passengers from carrying large bags. These limitations are now set after about 15 long years of operation.
