Water level of Korattur lake and updates

Korattur Lake is a reservoir spread across 990 acres of land area or 4.31 crore sq. ft. The lake is found along Korattur (western Chennai) towards Arakkonam railway tracks.
A chain of three chains including the Ambattur Lake, Madhavaram Lake and Korattur Lake form this Korattur Lake.
In case of surplus level of water in one of these lakes, the volume will be transferred to the other.
Water in this lake has been used to meet the drinking water needs of Chennaites before 1970. Eventually, the lake got contaminated with sewage and industrial waste from different areas like Ambattur, Athipet and Pattaravakkam.
In 2013, plans were devised by the State Government’s Water Resource Department (WRD) to renovate all the 3 lakes and set up parks and walkways including that of Korattur Lake.
