Posted on: 01/Nov/2017 11:27:00 AM
Until now, sugar was sold in the Tamil Nadu ration shops at a relatively low price of Rs. 13.50 per kg. So, all the ration card holders availed this low price by buying the allowed quantity of sugar.

In this situation, the state government of Tamil Nadu has issued an order that sugar price must be increased to Rs. 25 per kg in the ration shops from 1st November.

Accordingly, sugar price in the rations shops will be Rs. 25 per kg from today.

An official from the Department of Food explained that this sugar price increase has been registered in the POS device (Point of Sales) device kept in the ration shops mainly in order to avoid any disputes between the buying ration card holders and the ration shop staff.

However, for the group of ration card holders possessing `Antyodaya ration card who belong to the economically most backward sections, sugar will be sold at the old price of Rs. 13.50 per kg.

For the police staff ration cards, sugar will be sold at Rs. 12.50. For all other ration card holders, sugar will be sold at Rs. 25 per kg. This is effective from today (Wednesday, 1st November).
