Flexi train faire system to be revised by Indian Railways

Posted on: 28/Oct/2017 12:06:54 PM
The flexi-fare system of premium trains like Rajdhani, Shatabdi, and Duronto is likely to be revised. With this, tickets will be sold for half the price without any hike in price.

The present system was introduced in 2016 where the price will be increased after selling 10 percent of tickets. For every 10 percent sale in ticket, there will be 10 percent increase in fare. The maximum hike is 1.5 times that of original price in sleeper, air-conditioned chair car and 2-tier AC class and it will be 1.4 times that of 3-tier AC.

After setting up the new system, passengers who book tickets earlier will have an extra advantage. With this flexi-fare system, additional revenue will be generated and cross-subsidization cost will be reduced.

A flat increase in premium train fares is also likely by the railway board in the Rajdhani Express that flagged off on 17th October. There is no dynamic pricing of this train, but the fares will be 20 percent more than the normal fares, but will continue to be affordable than the highest fares of 2-tier AC and 3-tier AC of Rajdhani.
