Special buses to meet festive demand, announces Minister Vijayabaskar

As it is Diwali season now, the Tamil Nadu transport department will be operating special buses between 15th and 17th October. A total of 4,820 buses will be functional. Further, mofussil buses that will hail from Koyambedu will be made to take different bus routes so as to avoid heavy traffic. All the buses bound to head to Andhra will take the route via Anna Nagar, West bus stand. And buses towards Puducherry, Cuddalore and Chidambaram will take ECR route, hailing from Saidapet Court bus stop.
 
Buses to Kumbakonam and areas beyond Thanjavur through Thindivanam, Panrutti including SETC, and Vikkravandy will start from Arignar Anna bus stand at Tambaram, Sanatorium, MEPZ.
 
Buses to Arcot, Vellore, Arani, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Hosur and Tirupathur will take the route through Poonamallee starting from Poonamallee bus stand.
 
Buses starting from CMBT, Koyambedu will take the route through Maduravoyal, Poonamallee, Nazarathpet, outer ring road, Vandalur, whereas it usually takes the route through Tambaram, Perungulathur.
 
M.R. Vijayabaskar, the State Transport Minister said totally 11,645 buses including those already scheduled and special ones shall be functional in this period. On 15th October, 788 buses will be functional, and on 16th and 17th October, there will be 1,844 and 2,188 buses functional respectively.
 
As a move to ease ticket reservation, there are 29 special ticket booking counters set up of which 26 are in Koyambedu and 2 in Tambaram Sanatorium and 1 in Poonamallee. From next Thursday, these counters will be functional for 5 days. Following festival time, for 4 days starting from 19th October, there will be 3,794 special buses in addition to the regular count of 2,275 functional from other areas heading to Chennai city.
