Chennai rains to reduce before lashing again

Posted on: 22/Aug/2017 12:39:46 PM
Southwest Monsoon has remained generous for Chennai and other districts of Tamil Nadu that have been receiving on and off light to moderate showers ever since the month of August started.

Though Tamil Nadu lies in the rain shadow area which is the reason that it usually does not record good rains. However, there are a few occasions when the states along with the capital city Chennai recorded a few good spells and which is why Tamil Nadu stands at a rainfall surplus state which is 35% as on August 20.

Some light to moderate rains has occurred in parts of the state in the last 24 hours as well. However, the rain intensity was more in the interior regions of the state as compared with those lying on the coastline.

As of now, scattered light rains are likely to continue in parts of the state but the rain intensity over Chennai will reduce in the next 48 hours. However, by August 24, rains are once again likely to increase over the city and also over the nearby districts of Tamil Nadu.

As per Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation is expected to develop over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and a feeble trough is also expected to form from Coastal Andhra Pradesh to Coastal Tamil Nadu leading to an increase in rains.

Skymet Weather reiterates that on and off rains will continue over Tamil Nadu for the remaining days of the month. While on and off showers with a comparatively reduced intensity will keep lashing Chennai almost the entire month.
