TN is deficient of rainfall by 12 percent

Nearly 35 percent of total rainfall in Tamil Nadu is received through southwest monsoon. This is deficient by 12 percent this year as of Tuesday, state report from the India Meteorological Department. If this pace of rainfall keeps remaining the same, according to weather experts forecast, in another 2 weeks, there will be near normal to excessive downpour.
Until 26th July, the deficiency percent was 32 percent right from the commencement of southwest monsoon on 1st June which has dwindled to 12 percent as of 1st August.
Explaining this, the Director of Regional Meteorological Centre S. Balachandran said about 35 percent rainfall obtained through southwest monsoon is observed in Nilgiris and Coimbatore. The reason for rain showers is the convective activity during the monsoon season.
Weather experts say the deficiency is likely to be washed out with the widespread rain showers along Delta regions and parts of southern regions in the state. A renowned astro-meteorologist, S. Ramachandran says the southwest monsoon rain showers can be observed until 2nd week of October while usually it lasts till end of September. The monsoon will remain near normal this time, as substantial rainfall is likely from 3rd week of August.
