No change in smartphone price after GST, affirm makers

There will be no impact of Goods and Service Tax on mobile prices, say top smartphone vendors Samsung, Oppo, Gionee, and Xiaomi. It is widely said that GST will have its impact on smartphone pricing along with other sectors that customers face, however, the smartphone makers have come up with an affirmation that they will bear the impact of new GST tax system that is to come into effect tomorrow.
This will not have any impact on the pricing, says managing director of Gionee, Arvind Vohra. Similarly, Xiaomi and Oppo, and Indian maker Lava have also stated that there is no change in smartphone rate following GST implementation. At the same time, there will be no price difference in Samsung’s existing models. On the other hand, the new models may see a price hike of 4 to 5 percent as the GST is fixed at 12 percent.
According to an earlier statement today, Nokia states that it is GST-ready. The models Nokia 6 and Nokia 5 have come with GST tax rates. There will be no changes in Nokia phone price after GST roll out.
Retailers are however reluctant in stocking up the new products during first few days of July because of expected market fluctuation due to GST.
