Tamil University introduces formal regular education course on Yoga

The Vice-chancellor of Tamil University, Mr. K. Bhaskaran, informed that a new post-graduate course with the regular (formal) education on Yoga will be introduced in the next academic year.

In a session with the press reporters, the vice-chancellor explained that Tamil University was the 1st ever Educational Institution which introduced Yoga as a subject. Further, a Yoga centre was started and a long-distance education post-graduation course on Yoga is being taught.

The syllabus for this course was structured in the Tamil University itself. Other Universities which started courses on Yoga followed this syllabus while setting up theirs.

In this background, Tamil University is set to introduce a regular postgraduate course on Yoga.

On this occasion, Tamil University is also all set to start the Yoga World Conference on 10th (Friday) and 11th (Saturday) March.

The World Yoga Conference will be inaugurated by the Thiruvaduthurai Adheenam Ambalavaana Desika Paramaacharya Swamigal. Further, Dharmapuri Ilaiya Aadheenm Maasilamani Gnanasambandhar and others will be participating in this conference.

In a function organised for honouring the Yoga Institutions and the Yoga trainers to be conducted on Saturday (10th March), the minister for the Hindu Religious Endowments Sevur S. Ramachandran and Minister for Agriculture Mr. Duraikkannu will be participating.

With this conference, the Yoga Centre will be opened again. The vice-chancellor informed that this course would not be an isolated course but will merge with other courses as a general arrangement. Yoga will be given additional priority as a part of the Tamil Art.

The Tamil University Registrar, S. Muthukumar, was also present during this press session.
