Private milk agencies raise the price of milk by Rs. 2 to Rs. 5 per litre

The price of milk sold by private agencies has gone up by Rs. 2 to Rs. 5 per litre. It is worth noting that private milk suppliers play an important role by providing milk, one of the essential commodities, to the public. The government supplier of milk, Aavin, arranges for a supply of only 15 lakh litres. Thus, around 85 percent of the trade demands for milk is catered only by private agencies.
The leading milk suppliers like Dodla, Thirumala, Heritage, and Jersey operate with Andhra as headquarters.
Presently, Dodla, Jersey, Thirumala, and Heritage have increased their prices. The circular regarding this has already been sent to milk selling agents.
Dodla and Jersey have increased the price of milk from Rs. 2 to Rs. 5 per litre. Following this, Thirumala and Heritage are set to announce the increase in the price of milk from the midnight of 6th March by Rs. 2 to Rs. 5 per litre. The price of curd will also go up by Rs. 5 per litre.
Subsequently, it is very likely that the price of coffee and tea in the private hotels will go up.
The price of curd is up from Rs. 50 per litre to Rs. 55. The price of the 200 ml curd packet is up from Rs. 10 to Rs. 11.
It is worth noting here that the price of the milk of the private agencies is Rs. 8 more per litre as compared to Aavin milk.
The state president of the Tamil Nadu Milk agents and workers Association, Mr. S. A. Ponnuswamy has protested this price increase. Further, he expressed that only Tamil Nadu government should fix the purchase price of the milk supplied by private agencies. He insisted that an amendment regarding this must be passed immediately during the budget presentation session in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly
